Archives for the month of: August, 2007

Sean surprised me this morning and told me I can take over another room of our house for my craft room! I guess he was tired of my sewing table in guest room. Anyways a couple of weeks ago I picked up this fan that I totally fell in love with at Lowes.

So this is now my starting point for the room. A surfing theme .. I think. I surfed (heh) around iStockPhoto and found a couple of images that I like the color schemes. The first image, I like the bottom green/blue scheme .. not the red orange one.

I then spent an hour surfing craft rooms and DIY surfing bedrooms and I found this neat wall design that I think the green blue scheme could really work with.

[See this whole room]

I love the 2nd color scheme .. but I realized those are the colors I really want in my bedroom, so I’m saving that style for that project :) So does anybody have any suggestions or think I’m totally crazy for striping my craft room?

Mom’s coffee cake is our favorite breakfast cake for holidays. We usually treat ourselves to a slice or two as we open our stockings and enjoy the first cups of coffee on Christmas morning :) I’m not a big fan of the walnuts .. but if you dont chop them up too much they’re easily picked out.

  • ¾ cup butter or margarine, softened
  • 1 ½ cups sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ tsp baking powder
  • 1 ½ tsp soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 pint commercial sour cream
  • ¾ cup firmly packed light brown sugar
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup coarsely chopped walnuts
  • Powdered Sugar Glaze

Combine butter and sugar, creaming until light and fluffy.  Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.  Stir in vanilla.

Combine flour, baking powered, soda, and salt; add to creamed mixture alternately with sour cream, missing well after each addition.

Combine brown sugar, cinnamon, and walnuts, mixing well.  Spoon about one-third of batter into a greased and floured (Pam works) 10 inch tube pan or bundt pan; sprinkle with one third of nut mixture.  Repeat layers twice; bake at 350 for 1 hour or until done.  Let stand 5 minutes before removing from pan.  Place on serving dish, and drizzle with glaze.

Powdered Sugar Glaze:

  • 1-½ cups powdered sugar
  • 2 TBL water
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract

Combine all ingredients, mixing well.

Over a year ago (maybe 2) I broke my photo album attached to this site (MyFiasco) .. I’ve been trying to figure out a way to get everything back online for awhile .. but nothing really seemed easy or simple enough. I’ve been thinking about using Flickr, but I was worried about how everybody could search for your images .. I know .. I have a public blog, all my pictures on jungle photography are public (or were) .. why care now. But to me Flickr is a place people goto to search for pictures .. all my other albums, you’d have to come to my website, or be shown where to find my pictures. Anyways, I downloaded Google’s Picasa software for the PC awhile ago .. and I’ve been approved as a beta tester for their web albums. So I decided to finally check it out. Its pretty darn sweet. Besides being pretty quick to upload and manage your pictures, you can map where you took them! The only thing missing I can see right now is sub-albums, which I use pretty often, but other then that I think I’m going to move some of my old My Fiasco albums over soon.

To test out how things look in a post .. here are a couple pictures from today:

Rocky and Big Boy are sunning themselves

Of course as soon as they all see me they come running

Picasa also has a neat flash photoalbum thing .. if this works, it should be an album of one of our days on our road trip back from CA in 2005.

Neat! Well it looks like this works great here!! If you’re interested in looking through our old road trip pictures (they’re the only albums up at the moment) check out my picasa web album. My family also has a Kodak Gallery album up, so you can check that out too. Plus links for both those albums are in my sidebar under ‘Links’. Enjoy!

So yesterday Sean and I were sitting on the couch, hanging out with the pups .. and we started talking about how different little girl is from the 2 boys. She is extremely smart, so sweet, and very, very manipulative. A couple examples .. today all the pups got bones, but rather then eating hers, she’ll sit and bark at Rocky. When I give Rocky the one she had originally, and give her Rocky’s .. she’s fine for about 30 seconds while I watch them, but as soon as I turn my back, she’s barking at him again! She’s obsessed with getting onto our office chairs .. so she’ll sit under them and bark/whine constantly until you let her up. If you ignore her .. she’ll start stealing things, she’s taken my flip flops, sneakers, anything in the garbage, steals tissues from Sean’s room .. anything she can wrap her little teeth around. As soon as you get up to get what she has back from her, she’ll race to get in your chair. She’s getting better at taking advantage of distractions too. Yesterday I got up to stop the boys from fighting and she got up and drank half my iced coffee!! The worst was today (WARNING: this is gross) she went into Sean’s office and gave his leg a little nudge .. as soon as he looks down she had moved into the corner and started pooping .. he raced over there to clean up and she sprinted onto his chair. I couldn’t stop laughing .. I’m not sure if she figured out the ultimate diversion or it was a complete fluke (most likely, but its been awhile since she’s pooped in the house) .. but it was pretty funny to me. Anyways .. she’s such a brat most of the time .. but she’s damn lucky she’s so cute!!

On top of all the trickery she’s playing on everybody in the house .. she’s also keeping our yard safe. Today she killed a baby snake and brought it to the door as a present to us. She’s always been a great bug killer, she just continues to amaze me daily :)

The other 2 pups are equally as special and have their own talents .. I’m sure I’ll write about them some day soon :) Now I have to go watch and root for Sabra to win So you think you can dance!

Okay so yesterday I was blog surfing, checking out links on friends’ blogs, and just seeing whats out there, and I stumbled across this site: HELLOmynameisHeather

Visually her site is just stunning to me. Her photography is fantastic, and placed perfectly on her pages. Yes, her husband is a stock photographer, so she has some professional help. But damn! I need to get my camera out and take some everyday shots like that. I think she has alot more color in her world then I do .. but I know I could dress up my blog better then I do. Oh well .. time to start getting creative!

So Mike informed me last night that he couldn’t figure out how to leave me a comment .. I’ve gotten comments before, so I didnt think it was my problem, but then I tried to figure out how to do it, and I realized that my old theme didn’t have the comment links! Anyways, I’m updating my site to this theme, I’ll be editing it for a day or so .. if you notice anything broken let me know :)

Oh! And leave me a comment!!

Congrats to the Gallers family and their new little one, Erin!!

I may have had a little too much fun Saturday :) Nikki, Jason and Halle came over for dinner and we cracked open a few bottles of wine .. and then proceeded to go through our middle school yearbooks and drunk dial a few friends. So much fun.

Sunday I thought I was hung over … but around 3 pm I realized I had a fever of 103! This past Wednesday I went down to take care of Ella who had a fever of 102 on Monday and Liz couldn’t take any more work off. Well when I was there Ella was perfectly back to normal, but Thursday Liz came down with a fever of 102 and then this weekend my mom also got it. Its not fun at all, but at least it doesnt last long.

Today Rocky and I are going to his 2nd training class. I’m kind of excited that it will be a private lesson, since he’ll be missing the group session tomorrow because he’s getting fixed (YAY!!) .. so I’ll be able to work 1 on 1 with all our training problems, like because he’s so short, all the commands for sit encourage him to jump up :\ its hard to get a little dog to do anything.

Right now all 3 pups are trying to jump up into my lap .. guess they want to snuggle :)

Here are a few new puppy pictures

As one of the proud recipients of a drunk dial, i must say, they are grande. Drunk erica is super fun to talk to. :)

Also, the puppies are SOOO cute. gotta love those puppies. I cant wait till erin and leah can come roll around with em! Are you going to come visit us in orlando in october when we come down? not sure if angelle sent an email, but we got a 3 room villa, so people can come chill if/when they want. no puppies though…

Sean got our patio screened in and I love it!!! Hopefully it’ll keep out the mosquitoes .. it’ll be great to sit out there and relax when the weather cools down a bit.img_0468.jpgimg_0469.jpgimg_0471.jpg
