Happy Earth Day!

Green things I do:

  • Use reusable bags at grocery stores. I’ve actually started to bring my Publix bags to stores other then Publix! It took me awhile to get in the habit, I ended up hanging a hook for the bags on my door to the garage so they’re always staring me in the face. I still forget sometimes, in those cases I get plastic and I’m pretty good at bringing them back to recycle.
  • We recycle. Our garbage company makes it easy, one bin for everything. Its too easy not to do it. Although once I had to dig out a bag of recyclables Sean had put in the trash.
  • Switched out regular lightbulbs for the florescent ones. There are some lights, like ones that are on dimmers and the big recessed bulbs over the kitchen that I haven’t changed. I wish florescent bulbs could dim.
  • I just made my first investment in rechargeable batteries. A month or so ago I read [this article] on Lifehacker (great site to bookmark). I immediately looked at the charger on Amazon and said ‘I’m so going to buy this’ and forgot about it for 3 weeks. Then when I went to order it .. its backordered until June. Lifehacker articles are good for business apparently.

Green things I want to do this year:

  • Stop junk mail and junk catalogs. These things can’t go in the recycle bin, and I may love looking at the pretty pictures, I usually end up putting them right into the trash.
  • Start a compost pile. My mom has been composting for years. Every time I have eggshells or cut up a salad I wish I had a pile started. I think I have my spot picked out, I just have to figure out the best way to contain and manage it.
  • Start a dog waste composter. After picking up dog poo last week I realized I need a better way to get rid of it then just wrapping it up in Publix bags and throwing in the trash. [This article] has a really easy way to start up your own pet waste septic tank.

Share with me what you’ve done to go green in the past year and plan on doing in the future! I need some more ideas of simple things to do to save our earth.

Moving along slowly …

I took over 1800 pictures this weekend .. yep thats right one thousand eight hundred freakin’ pictures! So its taking me a little while to filter through them, pick the good smiles and clean them up. But as I finish them, I’m posting them to flickr. So .. theoretically you should be able to visit my photostream right now and see a bunch of pretty pictures. Feel free to check throughout the week, I’ll post again when I’m done editing & uploading :) And because I can’t resist not posting a few pictures (and its really hard to limit myself) here are a couple images that are done.

All is quiet

It seems a bit odd for our house to be so quiet after all the commotion of this weekend. Both the dogs are happily curled up in my lap, glad to have me all to themselves. Its nice to have some relax time, this weekend was packed full with fun.

Want a little breakdown of the weekends events?? Friday afternoon the Konicki, Donald and Gallers families trekked down here for lunch & some photo studio time. Then when Ella showed up we let the little girls have a tea party for some super cute pictures.

Then most of the crowd left just before the Stewarts made it here. Zach and Ella got acquainted, went for a quick swim in my puppy pool and ran around the house having fun together.

 Love this shot!

Later on everybody came back for a mexican fiesta, some wii sports, and other good times. Liz had an impromptu story time.

 Story time with Liz

Saturday morning we got up and got ready for Nikki’s babyshower. Of course I dont think anybody managed to take any pictures there :( But the food was great and it was really good that Megan and Nicole made it up for it. After brunch the girls staying at my house (Liz, Christina, Ella & Kaitlyn) and I headed back to my house for naps, and chill time. Then we got back in the car for an evening of pizza and photos at the beach.

Waiting for pizza

I took so many pictures at the beach, and apparently we had alot of onlookers. I should’ve sent somebody up to pass out business cards, but I had no idea anybody was paying attention to us :)  This is one of my favorites of all the kids (except the Stewart kids, they were there I promise :) ).

After beach pictures we had some ice cream and headed back to the Konickis for a little while. Little Gavyn & Kaitlyn were adorable together.

Cuties

Once we were home, liz and I stayed up to make a 2nd batch of cinnamon rolls for breakfast Sunday. But after 2 hours of dough making, we turned out the dough to realize .. liz forgot the yeast :( All we had was a lump of flour! Oh well .. we were both so exhausted, we gave up and went to bed :(

Sunday morning we had a lovely brunch at the Donald barn. Turns out we didn’t need a 2nd batch of rolls anyway :) Overall this weekend was very busy and alot of fun. Though I think its going to take me a couple days to get my energy back :)

My point and shoot pictures are up on Flickr [click here], including a whole bunch taken by guest photographer Brynn :)

Its cooooooooold!

Well .. at least according to Sean, and Big Boy it is. I think its beautiful .. even if its like only 60 degrees out. Of course I have long pants, 2 shirts and a sweatshirt on. :P The dogs really are cold. They convinced me twice to go back to bed and let them snuggle under the blankets (they really had to twist my arm). Every time I get back to the computer to get some work done, Big Boy runs to my feet and cries pathetically until I scoop him up and he can sleep in my lap. Except he doesn’t want to curl up in my lap right now, he’d rather stretch out .. and his head is resting on the top of my hand as I type. He’s so cute…. and annoying at the same time.
