For some reason, after our last trip to south florida, Big Boy decided that he no longer wanted to jump off the bed. That is a really good thing, since dachshunds are really prone to back problems as they get older. Though I think he might’ve pulled something running after Rocky or Nia, in any case, he learned that if he whined (and by whined, I mean a super high pitched wiener dog bark), one of us would come and rescue him and place him safely on the ground. He also started to use his stairs, but only if it took one of us too long to get to him. Now .. its been at least 2 weeks of this .. and he’s realized that yelping on the bed is a fantastic way to get a human to come pay attention to him. He’ll yelp and scream (I mean the dog really sounds like he’s in pain if you’ve never heard it before), and I’ll rush in there to help him down. As soon as I reach the side of the bed he starts jumping all over the blankets and pillows, tail wagging furiously, nipping at my fingers and taunting me with a play bow .. yes it gets annoying .. but its sooooo cute! He’s learned to manipulate the system to his advantage very quickly
Now if he would just learn to cry at the door when he needs to go out
I have a friend who recently finished acupuncture school and is also an herbalist .. so I’ve enlisted her help and advice to get my body back in order.
My how quickly my plans change
HAHAHA – check out my ‘on this day’ .. apparently this day last year I also started a workout plan .. yesterday I had two lazy posts, one in 2006 and one in 2007! I wonder if its a coincidence or if this time of year that creates these feelings. Hmm.
I got the results back from my last CT this morning, and everything looks normal. Its so fascinating to me that somebody out there has just looked at all my insides, and it def. gives me great peace of mind to realize not only are there no signs of cancer, but all my organs look and are functioning normally. Its pretty darn neat they don’t have to cut people open to determine that
They did find some nodes that were enlarged, one in my groin that’s bigger then 1cm but with everything else looking good and the blood work all normal, I’ve been given the all clear. I’m scheduled for another neck CT at the end of October (3 months from the first one) just to see if things are growing/shrinking or staying the same.
So .. that brings up the question .. why do I feel so lousy. Well both the doc.s believe I have some sort of really nasty virus, like mono. But seriously 5 months of this nonsense is enough. My main complaints are tiredness and the swollen nodes, and I have a hard time thinking clearly. It basically just sucks, but I’ve come to the decision that I’m really not helping myself by letting the exhaustion take over my life. What am I going to do about it? Diet & exercise of course!
Yesterday I lent my South Beach diet cookbooks to Nikki and then realized I should really start eating more of those low carb low fat meals. Then I was in BJs and saw they had the latest South Beach book, South Beach Supercharged. Now .. I’ve never done the real South Beach plan .. I never really felt the need to ‘jump start’ losing weight. I just think that their recipes are a healthy way of eating. But, this time I think I need to do something to shock my body back to normal. Or I could really mess with my immune system and end up in bed for a few days .. but I figure what’s a few more days when its been over 4 months of that
Basically I have nothing to lose, and I’ve run out of excuses.
What’s the difference with South Beach Supercharged? From what I can tell .. they added an exercise plan to the original plan. I’m not 100% sure, because I dont have the 1st book with me at the moment, but the meal plan seems alot like the 1st book. Luckily, my taste buds have certainly expanded since my family first did SoBe in 2003, because most of the meals in the first two weeks sound yummy to me. I’m pretty sure I’ll be able to make it through this time.
The exercise plans in the book are really simple, walking for cardio, chair exercises for strength training. I’m certainly going to put the Wii Fit to use, and it’ll be nice to get the dogs to walk with me. I recently bought them new harnesses so hopefully that will stop their pulling and they’ll get the exercise they really need too.
I’m hoping to start tomorrow .. I’ll fill you in tomorrow on my stats (no .. I don’t have the guts to post pictures like Keri)

I had a late start this morning, and Sean had a late night last night. I barely got started on my clean up project before he needed to get some sleep. So I’ve been folding & organizing piles of laundry, since that’s the quietest cleaning chore on my list.
Luckily, my brand new 1TB external hard drive arrived today, so now I’m formatting it and and backing upall my files. Right now I have a 500GB harddrive on my computer & a 500GB drive that holds all my images from my photoshoots. They’re both over half full, and I needed a way to keep both backed up incase I need to grab the important things out of the house and run (aka fires, floods or hurricanes). So I figured I’d back up both of those drives onto my TB drive, and that should be pretty good. I also have another 500 GB drive that holds my Time Machine backups, but I really dont know how to use that properly, and I’ve heard it wont restore your system completely. So for my TB drive I will be using Super Duper to make sure the job gets done properly.
So cleaning day has been pushed back (again), but I will dedicate the rest of my day to editing photos. I might even share some of the animals we saw yesterday at Corgan’s birthday trip to the zoo

Tomorrow I will be away from the computer .. scrubbing my house from top to bottom. Hopefully it will only take one day to whip this place into manageable shape.

After making a trip out during a tropical storm for pork fried rice other day I decided I really wanted to make some fresh seafood fried rice. I have yet to find a good shrimp and scallop fried rice at the restaurants near us, but I usually end up burning fried rice when I’ve made it in the past. This time I was determined to do it right.

Tomorrow I’m supposed to have a CT scan at 10 am .. however I was supposed to pick up my ‘drinks’ yesterday. Today their office was closed all day .. so we’ll see what they say when I call in the morning. I’m torn between postponing the test and really really not wanting to drive up to melbourne when everything is so flooded.
