Conversations with Ella

Tonight Ella, Mom and I went to Seminole Star Search were Liz was working. Ella had a blast cheering on the contestants as they walked the red carpet into the auditorium and during the opening number of Seminole Wind (what we went to see). She was amazed by the stage & the lights, not afraid one bit. When we were leaving we passed the DJ’s car & trailer that was wrapped with advertising.

Ella: Who’s car is that? (common question from Ella, she asks what’s that, who’s that constantly)
Mom & I: That’s the DJ’s car
Ella: Oh, I like DJs car (usually she doesn’t respond when we answer her ‘what’s that’ questions)

A little later, she’s in the back seat playing with her corduroy bear.

Ella: Corduroy is crying (only its more like cor-lur-lroy)
Mom & I: Why is Corduroy crying? Is he sad?
Ella: Yes, Corduroy is sad
Me: Why is Corduroy sad?
Ella: Because he wants crackers

hahaha poor starving bear. She gives him her sippy cup, we pick up pizza, repeat above conversation with pizza instead of crackers. She then told us Corduroy needed a bath, and that he went potty. She cracks me up :)

Busy Weekend Ahead

K Family

Look how pretty Nikki & Jason are!! If you want to check out more of the beautiful photos of the Konicki family taken this week .. head over to my photo blog (follow the URL on the image).

Tomorrow I’m heading south for the weekend. I’ll be getting my hair done, maybe checking out Seminole Star Search, photographing a new baby, meeting Nia and of course hanging out with my little niece Ella. Speaking of Ella .. check out her first set of pig tails!!

Ella's Piggy Tails

No she isn’t wearing lipstick (I asked Liz). I think she totally looks like a ‘Who’ .. apparently the whole family does too :)

Sister Weekend

Ella spent this weekend with her dad, which means Liz spent the weekend with me! Thursday Liz & Ella stopped for lunch at my house before we piled back into the car to meet Ella’s dad in Orlando. Once we were almost there, we found out his flight had been delayed, about 4 hours! He was calling us from Atlanta, when he was supposed to be in Orlando 3 hours already. So we headed to IKEA to kill some time. Liz had never been to IKEA before and was a little unsure that we could waste enough time there but sure enough, 2.5 hours later, we hadn’t even made it through the entire store and we got the phone call that Ella’s dad had landed. We rushed to sit in traffic for an hour .. seriously the sign said 45 min for the next 11 miles!! 11 miles in 45 min!! INSANE. Eventually we dropped Ella off and made it back to my house around 9:30pm.

Friday we decided to cook. I think its becoming our tradition to cook on our sister weekends. This weekend we made tomato, mozzarella & basil paninis, chili cheese dip, mushroom risotto, beer cheese soup and home made pizzas. I’ve never seen my sink so full of dishes!

Saturday Liz assisted me in photographing a wedding. It was an outdoor wedding, on the hottest day so far this year .. so yeah we were pretty exhausted when we got home. Preview pictures should be on my photo blog some time this week, Liz already has hers up. Today Liz got to pick up Ella earlier then in past visits, so I’ve spent most of the day being lazy, although I did clean my kitchen and took the dogs to the dog park :)

JibJab Rocks

You may have seen their awesome animations years ago in This Land or What we call the news .. if you haven’t .. click the links, they’re classics. Anyways they created an ecard section where you can now upload your own pictures and star in cute little animations .. most you have to pay for, but there are a few free ones, like this:

Don’t send a lame eCard. Try JibJab Sendables!

and yeah .. I used my free credits for the St. Patrick’s Day one .. be on the lookout for that :)

[UPDATE] – Ella’s reaction to watching the video is awesome!!!

A Magical Weekend

I held off on this post so that I had some pictures to share with it :) This weekend was AWESOME. We all had a great time, especially Ella. I was amazed to see her play maracas with bongo players, hug and give high 5s to Disney characters, kiss sheep, shake hands with giant dinosaurs and dance for crowds. Even when Ella went back to the hotel for a nap .. mom, my Aunt Linda and Uncle Terry and I continued the fun with rides on Everest and Soarin’ .. unfortunately the day was just too short to do everything. Dad, Liz and Ella met back up with us for dinner in the UK, champagne and dessert in Paris, funnel cakes from the US and fireworks in front of Japan. It was a magical day, and one I hope to never forget.

Some of the highlights for me were moments that only Ella and I shared, as she was a little restless during dinner. She and I hung out and watched a Beatles cover band, went to visit Pooh and Eeyore for her 2nd time that day, and then watched the band again, this time she performed her dances in front of a little crowd, with many of them dancing along with her. She also clapped and yelled so enthusiastically every time a song ended. The best part was when she saw her Puppah and started to dance like crazy! She dances with him nightly, so she was so happy to see him while the band was playing. Because we kinda left the restaurant quickly, I didnt grab a camera, so I have to remember those moments in my mind (or here).

On our way back to the car after the fireworks, Ella asked me to carry her rather then ride in the stroller. I asked her if she had a good time that night, and she said yes (of course) but then said “Erica I’m happy” .. later on she said that her baby was happy, and mom even witnessed that, so I think she really did say it :) Seems like a pretty big concept for a 20 month old to grasp though.

Sunday I was amazingly sore .. I did more walking, lifting, carrying, and pushing then I’ve done in MONTHS. When I got home to Sean and the dogs, they were all super happy to see me, as I was to see them. Eventually the dogs pinned me down on to the couch and fell asleep on me within 20 min of me walking in the door, so I took a good nap with them. Perfect way to end a great weekend.

A fun weekend

This weekend Liz and Ella were in town for Annabelle & Halle’s birthday party. Friday night Halle and Nikki came over for dinner and some quality hangout time. The girls also tried on their aprons I made them. Ella got a kitchen for Christmas, and both Halle & Annabelle got kitchens for their birthdays, so they all needed aprons :) A picture of Halle’s is coming soon.

I’m considering making a few more and putting them up on my new Etsy account (thanks for the encouragement Keri) I’ll be sure to post here when and if I make any to sell :)

Friday night / Saturday morning we made these. They were soooo good! We ended up making the dough and rolling the rolls Friday night, then refrigerating them overnight. Saturday we took them out and let them warm up and rise for an hour before baking them. The only changes we made to the recipe was to double the vanilla in the frosting, and baked at 350 for almost 45 minutes (might have been a little too long).

Saturday was party day. We were up bright and early enjoying our cinnabuns :) Ella had a blast on the playground, going down the slides. What’s really cool is that apparently when you reserve the pavillion at this park, they include free skate rental, and they have an outdoor skating rink! It was pretty neat to get a bunch of the adults in old school skates. I actually did it, and after about 8 times around, I realized how old and out of shape I was, my back was killing me from trying to keep my balance :P The party was a big success and you can check out some pictures here.

This morning we got Ella into the studio for a few shots before Liz and Ella headed home. I just had to share one of my favorites.

Have you ever …

gotten a word or phrase stuck in your head, like you can get a song stuck in your head? I’ve never remembered doing it before, but on Tuesday I started the day off by repeating in my head ‘No, the other kind of German Shepherd” from the Tina Fey AMEX commercial. Ok, yeah I’ve heard of people getting jokes stuck in their head, so I kinda understand how that happened. But a few hours later I realized I was repeating ‘Sweeney Tot’, a headline I read on TMZ.com announcing Helena Bonham Carter & Tim Burton’s new baby girl. Once I realized what I was doing I thought I had stopped it .. but a few hours later .. I was repeating Sarkozy, as in the French President Nicholas Sarkozy?? Over and over and over again my head! I have no answer on how that got stuck in there. So I had enough of repeating words and headed over to youtube to replace the words with Ella’s new rocking horse’s song :) Its very catchy.

Adventures in Baby Sitting

This week just flew by. We didn’t end up going to that Gymboree class, but we did have alot of fun adventures including a dawn photoshoot for her Christmas card, a trip to the Westin Diplomat to see Annabelle and Halle, and a few shopping trips. Ella was awesome for me the whole time, she made it too easy really. Friday we spent the day at Jungle Island with the Konickis and Donalds. Ella had woken up at 6:15 am .. didn’t sleep during our 45 min drive there (which I totally expected her to) .. then only fell asleep for a half hour on our way home, and stayed up until 7pm without any fits! I couldn’t believe it. Seriously .. too easy.

So Jungle Island was really neat. Ella had so much fun. She met a turtle, fed a kangaroo, saw chickens, pet goats and touched an alligator. She loved waving hi to all the animals we couldn’t get close to, and running around the playground with Halle and Annabelle. Here are a few pictures, and there are plenty more on her website.

This is from Thursday when we joined the Konickis and Donalds for lunch at their hotel

The hardest part of the week were the puppies. Thursday after Ella and I came home from visiting Halle and Annabelle at their hotel, she went down for a nap and I let the dogs out back while I emptied out the car. When I went to go bring them in .. I realized my 2 dogs had gone under the fence into my parents’ neighbor’s yard. So I pulled out one of the many rocks we have piled under the fence to keep them from going under and Rocky, the 3rd dog, ran under. So I run to a part of the fence where I could see through into the next yard and I see that the neighbor’s gate is open .. and like it was a cartoon or something, as soon as I saw the open gate all 3 of them ran full speed out of it. That’s when my adrenaline kicked in, I hopped the 6 foot wood fence, grabbed one right outside of the gate. Then I  saw a speeding car coming straight for us and yelled at him and Big Boy went right after the car. Luckily the guy stopped and I managed to grab Big Boy. Then with 2 dogs under my arms, I corralled Little Girl back into the neighbor’s yard, shoved them all under the fence where I had pulled the rock away and started to climb over the fence myself. I looked down as I was about to swing my other leg over the fence and my 2 dogs ran back under their original hole .. UGH … and stupid me never closed the neighbor’s gate! So another run up and down the street, grabbed them both, plugged up both holes, threw them throw a missing plank, hurled myself back over the fence, and then crated them while I calmed down. I was furious, and so lucky Ella had been asleep and that nothing had happened to those darn dogs. Friday they were chained up everytime they went out, just like they are here where we dont have a fence.

Here is a silly picture from our first night at my parents house where my trouble makers decided to join Ella in her bath.

I can tell they’re happy to be home, we had to leave quickly this morning, they slept the whole trip and most of the afternoon .. they’re both curled up with me on the couch right now.

Auntie Erica reporting for duty!

Well today is my 2nd day of Ella-sitting. I’m here for the entire week as Ella’s regular babysitter has gone on a vacation (lucky her!). Ella’s been great for me so far. I guess because she doesn’t get to see me very often, she associates fun things with me. So keeping up with tradition, Ella and I went to the mall yesterday where we ended up walking the toy aisles at Target, and even played with their life sized robot pony (scary huh?). I even got her out of the toy aisles without any crying! We had Jamba Juice and went to Barnes and Noble yesterday too. Between the very active toddler, 3 puppies and waking up at 6:30am, I was exhausted last night.

This morning I realized I had a bunch of work to get done today, so I decided to try to get Ella to nap twice (since she still has a cold, I think I have a good chance of making that happen). We went out to breakfast and when we got home she went right down for a nap, YAY! She’s already been down for an hour! Hopefully this afternoon will go as smoothly as this morning.

As for the rest of the week .. I’m trying to come up with things to keep us busy. I signed up for a free class at Gymboree tomorrow morning. The Konickis and Donalds will be down here tomorrow afternoon, so hopefully we’ll get to hang out with them on Thursday.  I’m trying to decide if she’d enjoy something like the Young At Art Museum or maybe a trip to MODS.

Well time to get my work done, not sure if she’ll sleep much longer! If you have any fun suggestions for hanging out with a toddler .. leave me comments!
