Towel Time

My dogs love when I take a shower. Yesterday, Daisy curled up and waited patiently on my bath mat while I soaped up. Why? I have no idea. She likes to lick the water off my legs, while I run away telling her to stop & leave me alone. Big Boy loves to jump into the shower (after the water is turned off) and try to lick up whatever he can. I make sure I rinse out all the extra soap because of that. I have a feeling its because we give them filtered water, and the tap water just tastes better to them. I really have no idea. But what I do know, is every once in a while I’ll leave a towel on the floor .. and man, do they love to roll on damp towels. Again, I dont know if its because of the water or maybe because it smells fresh and clean (big boy will also roll in air freshener .. and dead things) but they seem to really enjoy it.

This is just after I laid the towel down .. daisy is rubbing her nose in it.

This morning Big Pup didn’t eat his breakfast .. so we went to the vet this afternoon where they discovered a ‘bug’ in his stool. They gave him some fluids under his skin (so he looked like a camel for a bit) and some meds to help with the stomach problems. Daisy also got some of the same medications, just in case. Hopefully all will be back to normal tomorrow

As for the fires, that update I got were that the fires were 40% contained. That surprises me because I cant see any plumes out there, although the horizon is all together very gray.

Not too much going on around here. My allergies have really been acting up for over a week now I take Zyrtec nightly and I’m not sure if its just not working because maybe I’ve built up a tolerance, or if the allergens in the air are just that bad right now. I’m probably going to make a trip to the pharmacy today to see if they can recommend anything.

How much do you love that face! Big Pup was just trying to get Daisy to chase him. She was sleeping, and didn’t want to play. So I tried to get a shot of him crouched down, trying to sneak up on her, or tempt her .. but being the camera hound that he is, he struck a pose as soon as he heard the camera focusing. These guys deserve a trip to the dog park this afternoon.

Well .. at least according to Sean, and Big Boy it is. I think its beautiful .. even if its like only 60 degrees out. Of course I have long pants, 2 shirts and a sweatshirt on. The dogs really are cold. They convinced me twice to go back to bed and let them snuggle under the blankets (they really had to twist my arm). Every time I get back to the computer to get some work done, Big Boy runs to my feet and cries pathetically until I scoop him up and he can sleep in my lap. Except he doesn’t want to curl up in my lap right now, he’d rather stretch out .. and his head is resting on the top of my hand as I type. He’s so cute…. and annoying at the same time.

Weekend Roundup

I took a break from working on the computer this weekend to find this:

Next I’d like to introduce you to … THE TALLEST WEED EVER!!! This thing has been growing in our backyard for a few months, and then all of a sudden I realized that its freakin’ huge. See, our land slopes down just before the wetlands starts, its a good 4 foot drop .. so it was easy to underestimate the size of this thing. So I finally went down to check it out yesterday, and realized its probably TWICE my height .. yeah .. I’m saying this thing is def. over 10 feet tall, maybe closer to 12!

Its hard to get a photograph of a green weed infront of green trees and green grasses, so I tried my best to darken everything around it. Anyways, there’s a big palm next to it, I tried to draw lines on how much taller that palm is to me.

This was just a cool perspective .. the one on the left is the top of the weed, with pretty sky behind it. The one on the right is more of the weed, taken from about my eye line.

Then I tried to get in close .. because guess what .. this sucker is covered in thorns! And .. to my surprise, its also apparently covered in lady bugs.

And for those of you who dont live around here .. yesterday it rained .. alot .. and by alot I mean probably 2 feet of rain. I’m not kidding! It rained from 5pm until 12:30am .. pouring the entire time! I might be dramatic, but I really think we easily got over 6 inches, probably 8 inches of rain yesterday. So its spring, and it rained .. which means the frogs are going nuts! Our little wetland is filled with frogs, and their chorus is ridic. loud, especially at night. Last year I even had trouble sleeping through it. So when I woke up this morning and it was still going on, I decided it was about time to buy me some rain boots and check out what all the commotion was about.

When we bought this land, way back in ’06 (heh) this area was actually a dirt path, you could walk it all the way back to the forest. Then sometime last year it rained, and I haven’t been out there since .. until today.

This is what I’ve determined to be the frog oasis .. you see this little patch of nice greenery is beautiful all year long, even when everything else is all dried up. So I believe this is where all the little suckers live.

Unfortunately, the water was just too darn deep after last night rain .. I was too close to going over my boots, so I decided to turn back.

And I never saw one darn frog. Seriously, there has to be THOUSANDS of frogs out there with the amount of noise they’re making .. and not freakin’ one of them jumped out at me. I really expected to walk out there and see them jumping from reed to reed, squatting on patches of grass, just posing for my camera .. and I got nothing. Oh well .. maybe when things dry up a bit I can make it out to the oasis and see if my theory is correct

Getting Better?

Well I hung out in bed most of the day yesterday .. the dogs like hanging out in bed, so that keeps the peace in the house. But by yesterday evening I had enough of being in bed, and was dying to clean. I ended up putting away laundry that had been in our laundry basket for a week, and then I got back into bed and started planning my spring cleaning for the next day, expecting to wake up this morning with tons of energy. Well that didn’t happen, instead I woke up with a sinus headache .. so my day is shaping up to be much like yesterday Although I do get to cuddle with this:

She started cuddled under the blanket facing me .. but eventually rolled over to one of her favorite positions, with her head way back. Its freaky, especially when she has those puppy dreams of chasing lizards or rabbits and her eyes roll back in her head and her mouth and eye lids start twitching .. yeah its a bit disturbing. But she’s still cute. Oh and incase you’re wondering, Frank is asleep way under the blankets, sometimes under my bent knees, right now he happens to be at the very end of the bed.

Hopefully I’ll have the same burst of energy this afternoon as I did yesterday. I have alot of projects I want to finish & new ones to start.

Sun Dog

We’ve been leaving the baby/puppy gates down more and more, hoping that one day we can trust the twins not to get into trouble, and they’re actually doing very well, except for Daisy obsessively chewing a basket I use to pose babies. Anyway, big boy has found a new favorite spot in the morning, right where the sun comes in from the windows around our front door into our dining room. I happened to leave one of my gear bags around and since its black i’m sure it makes this spot a nice warm place to snuggle.

I have a trip to traffic court this morning .. not a new ticket, just fighting an old one. I also sent my bride her proofs last night, and got a quick response that she loved them, and there are so many she’s going to have a hard time choosing which ones for her CD (she only gets 25, I think I proofed around 130). If you’d like to see them email me and I’ll be happy to send you a link & the access code, I love sharing my (and in this case Liz’s) photography. Just be patient because today I’ll probably be tied up in traffic court for awhile. Woo hoo!

I finished my first quilt!

I picked up quilt kits last fall, fully intending to make quilts for my little girls for Christmas. Well Christmas came and went .. and last weekend I decided to give Halle’s a shot before her 2nd birthday party. To my surprise I had the whole front (the quilt part) done in less then 2 hours. Today I finished it off by added batting and the back piece, so now its finished, and its actually snuggly I didnt actually ‘quilt’ the whole thing .. meaning stitching through all the layers to keep them together forever. I’m nervous that it would look terrible on the back, so I’ll try with the kit I bought for myself later

As a bonus here are a couple puppy pictures. The other day Daisy was lounging on the futon with her head on a pillow and the blanket gently draped over her .. but I didn’t have a camera. So I got up for the camera and of course she left her spot .. but a few minutes later she was back almost in the same position .. she has quite the life huh?
